FAQ
1. Who is eligible to attend?
Any adult age 18 or older who needs socialization during the day instead of being isolated at home or who cannot be left at home alone because of an illness or disability.
2. Is there any illness you can't care for?
No. As long as a person can live at home, in a nursing home, or at hospice, that person can attend LEC.
3. Are you able to care for people...
- who are incontinent? Yes. Participants receive as much assistance as they need while maintaining dignity.
- with difficult behaviors or who are aggressive? Yes. LEC developed the "behavior acceptance" philosophy that has been adopted in national standards for care of people with dementia. LEC does not turn anyone away because of diagnosis. The staff's extensive training and understanding of "behavior acceptance" makes it possible for almost anyone to attend LEC. The atmosophere of care and acceptance usually eliminates aggressive behaviors. It is amazing what a staff practicing "behavior acceptance" can do. In the rare circumstance, after a trial period, the person is a threat to someone else or to himself, LEC will help the family find other alternatives.
- who wander? Yes. LEC facilities are designed with alarmed exits, but the staff is trained to prevent wandering. Because of the stimulating environment, wandering is usually not an issue.
4. How much does it cost?
Fees are based on the level of care the person needs and are charged per day the person schedules. A potential participant may come for a free trial visit. During that time, the staff will assess how much care the person needs. When the family returns to pick up the person, members of the staff will discuss the assessment and tell the family the exact fee. There is no obligation after that.
Most families find it very affordable - certainly cheaper than an in-home aide who just "sits" with a person.
5. Is a physician's referral required?
No. Although many physicians recommend LEC, a doctor's referral is not required.
6. How do I apply?
Just call to set a time for the free trial visit: 704.739.4858 for the Kings Mountain center or 704.484.0405 for the Shelby center.
7. Do I have to come every day?
No. You choose the days and the hours that suit your schedule.
